The 100RC Systems Studio is a multi-day workshop to tackle complex challenges by understanding them through systems’ analysis. This tool helps familiarize participants with a systems thinking approach, builds understanding around the challenges facing a specific system, identifies how systems dynamics are at play in these challenges and spur ideation around integrated systemic solutions to address these challenges.
The tool was developed to provide Chief Resilience Officers (CROs) and their resilience teams with a structured approach to tackling complex challenges by understanding them through systems’ analysis. This tool is applied to identify solutions to the multiple challenges a system may be facing. Appropriate subject systems include but are not limited to waste, education, food, housing, and water.
Over two and half days of programming participants go through an experiential arc from becoming familiar with the subject system and interacting systems dynamics to developing and refining solutions to address multiple challenges. Separate analysis of the subject system is undertaken prior to the workshop to develop a systems map of stocks and flows which is used during workshop exercises.
The workshop deepens stakeholders’ understanding of systems dynamics and interdependencies and leaves them with new skills to apply in solving challenges. It also guides participants to identify new solutions as well as consider adjustments to existing initiatives that contribute to overall resilience. The Systems Studio brings together local stakeholders and subject matter advisors (SMAs) to expand thinking and build the relationships necessary to take the work forward.
Resilience champions and initiative owners can use the momentum of the Systems Studio to advance solutions that leverage systems dynamics and promote systems change with broad stakeholder support.
