Sara is an urban planner, with 16 years of experience working on major urban planning and development projects across Africa, South-East Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, with the UN, Development Banks, Local Governments and INGOs. Her experience ranges from design and delivery projects in the area of urban planning and regeneration, urban resilience, slum upgrading, urban governance, and WASH; to policy development and applied research; and the management of multidisciplinary teams and projects. She has a solid experience working with communities and diverse stakeholders, using a participatory and collaborative approach. She holds a PhD in cultural heritage led urban planning, with a thesis on the role of heritage in social inclusion and development in East Africa. Sara is Associate Director, International Development at Arup, leading the work on child-centred design and planning in vulnerable urban contexts.
