Martine Sobey is a Senior Manager in the City Resilience Delivery team, supporting a number of 100RC African member cities, specifically Accra, Addis Ababa, Cape Town and Lagos, in building resilience.

Prior to joining 100 Resilient Cities, Martine worked as an environmental consultant providing policy and advisory services to governments, donors, IFIs, multilaterals and the private sector in Europe, Africa and Asia.  Her technical expertise is in climate change mitigation, adaptation, and low emissions development.  Martine has spent her career managing and implementing complex multi-stakeholder projects, impact assessments and evaluations. Most recently Martine led the design of a large-scale transboundary water security and climate resilience programme for the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in Eastern Africa.  She also served as Energy Advisor for DFID’s Infrastructure and Cities for Development programme. She has also worked for the European Commission where she published work on air quality, nanoparticles, water quality, chemicals policy, emissions trading, and climate change.  Martine served as climate change mitigation expert in a high profile project to mainstream climate change into the 2014-2020 European Budget.

Martine holds a Bachelors of Arts in Geography from the University of Cambridge and a Master of Science in Environment and Politics from King’s College London.
