Laurian Farrell is Associate Director, City Resilience Delivery – NAM.
Laurian is a Water Resources Engineer with a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, who has been fortunate to work in the private, public and philanthropic sectors for close to 20 years. As an Associate Director, City Resilience Delivery at 100RC, Laurian is working on the creation of innovative and impactful solutions that create resilient environments for 10 cities across North America (including 4 cities in her homeland of Canada).
Prior to joining 100 RC, Laurian led the Environment department at the City of Brampton, Ontario. She managed a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to develop and deliver the city’s programs for stormwater management, flood mitigation and environmental master planning. The latter required the implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation actions for land, water, air, waste, energy and people across all sectors of the municipality. Laurian also project managed the city’s “game changer” Riverwalk initiative; a $250 million flood protection and downtown revitalization project.
Laurian also worked at the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority where she modernized and executed a new program for Flood Risk Management & Infrastructure. This included management of a 24hr flood forecasting & warning team, outreach and coordination with nine municipalities, climate strategy development and adaptation planning, and asset management of $40M of flood control infrastructure including large scale dams, flood control channels and dykes. There she gained first hand crisis management experience and an understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by municipalities and their residents when responding to extreme weather events. Laurian was also the media spokesperson and subject matter expert on water resources for the organization.
In addition to her studies at the University of Guelph, Ontario where she received both her Bachelor of Science (Engineering) and her Master of Landscape Architecture degrees, Laurian pursued a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and she holds a certificate in Strategic Leadership and Innovation from the Schulich School of Business.
