Executive Order: Preparing the U.S. for the Impacts of Climate Change

President Obama signed an Executive Order today, titled “Preparing the United States for the Impacts of Climate Change,” directing Federal agencies to take the following steps towards climate resiliency:

  • Modernize Federal programs to support climate-resilient investments by identifying, then removing barriers to resilience-focused actions/investments in current policies and programs.
  • Manage lands and waters for climate preparedness and resilience in order to properly strengthen our natural resources and ecosystems.
  • Provide information, data, and tools for climate change preparedness and resilience by developing climate preparedness tools & information that leaders need to make decisions; then making them accessible to the public.
  • Plan for climate change related risk by developing strategies to evaluate and address significant risks.
