100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) would like to congratulate our long-time partner, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, on becoming President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
In an age where cities are being asked to accomplish more with less, America’s mayors could not ask for a more passionate and accomplished advocate than Mayor Landrieu. Through our years of partnership with the City of New Orleans, we have seen Mayor Landrieu’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing cities in ways that embrace resilience – as cities face head-on the shocks and stresses inevitable in the coming decades.
In 2015, 100RC was pleased to support the City of New Orleans on the creation and release of “Resilient New Orleans” – the city’s urban resilience strategy – jointly with Mayor Landrieu. Released in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the strategy outlined New Orleans’s vision for a more adaptive, connected, future-looking, and resilient city.
At the time, Mayor Landrieu noted, “We must seize the moment. We not only have an opportunity to continue in the positive direction of the past several years, we have a responsibility to get it right and set the city on a more just and sustainable path for generations to come. We cannot afford to fail.”
That spirit of progress and innovation that Mayor Landrieu illustrated in Resilient New Orleans and throughout his time as Mayor of New Orleans will service America’s cities well. We look forward to continuing our work with Mayor Landrieu as he takes on these new responsibilities.
