100RC and IHS Markit Announce Partnership to Bring In-Depth Economic Analysis to Cities

NEW YORK, NY – 100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) today announced a partnership with business information provider IHS Markit (Nasdaq: INFO) that will provide a critical resilience-building service to 100RC’s member cities.

Through the partnership, IHS Markit will connect macroeconomic data and forecasts with deep industry insight and local stakeholder feedback to assess cities’ critical economic challenges and recommend potential paths forward. Research and analysis from IHS Markit will be offered through local workshops that will help decision makers and key stakeholders understand broader economic trends and identify specific opportunities to support industry growth and job creation, as well as recognize ways to mitigate threats to regional competitiveness and economic vitality. This IHS Markit service is now available to 100RC’s member cities as they design and implement their comprehensive Resilience Strategies.

IHS Markit joins a prestigious group of “Platform Partners” that have committed to helping cities around the world prepare for, withstand, and bounce back from the ‘shocks’ – catastrophic events like hurricanes, fires, and floods – and ‘stresses’ – slow-moving disasters like water shortages, homelessness, and unemployment – which are increasingly part of 21st century life. The Platform Partners are a vital component of 100RC’s efforts, providing cities with the tools they need to increase resilience and developing a marketplace for other resilience-building tools. Current Platform Partners represent a wide array of private sector, public sector, NGO, and academic community leaders.

“IHS Markit is proud to work with 100 Resilient Cities to provide its Network with economic analysis that helps local leaders identify key opportunities for increasing regional growth and equity,” said Jane Okun Bomba, chief sustainability officer, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for IHS Markit. “Sustainability is essential to the way we do business every day.  We are committed to helping both public and private enterprises – including cities around the world – achieve their sustainable development goals.”

“In an increasingly complex and challenging world, cities need partnerships with companies like IHS Markit to withstand the shocks and stresses of the 21st century,” said Michael Berkowitz, President of 100 Resilient Cities. “By providing our network cities with economic analysis, IHS Markit is helping local communities see the big picture and interconnected factors that impact economic equity and local prosperity. IHS Markit’s expertise helps cities understand why and where growth will occur in the years ahead and focus on what will really matter to achieve sustainable prosperity.”
